CEO Elon Musk has often claimed that accidents cannot be the fault of the company, as data it extracted invariably showed Autopilot was not active in the moment of the collision.

COVID isn’t just an infection, it’s an underlying medical condition. By next year we’ll have reached the point where people have started having 5 or more reinfections. What happens at 15? Or 25? What is the reinfection event horizon? Like have we tested in animals or something? What is the maximum upper limit of infection above which no mouse survives?
I’m guessing it’s not infinity.
It makes you wonder. Why are conservative justices protective of their fantasy interpretation of the 2nd amendment which says that well-regulated militia’s right to bear arms shall not be abridged, but happy to ignore the 4th amendment, which says the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated?

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH to all the gaymers! During pride this year, as a celebration, I’m replaying a few of my favorite video games with LGBTQ+ representation. Even though many modern video game companies are committed to diverse representation, the execution still misses the mark at times. As a queer person, I value gaming experiences that leave me feeling included and understood.
After hours of dutifully playing through a variety of titles, I rounded up eight quality games where the LGBTQ+ characters feel natural, with a strong preference given to independent studios. This isn’t a complete list, by any means, so use them as a starting point to explore even more great queer games from queer creators.

Why Emacs has Buffers – Mastering Emacs:
If you’re new to Emacs, you may wonder why you read and write text from buffers as opposed to, you know, files or documents. There’s the fact that it’s not skeuomorphic, and thus the term lacks the spark that connects it to a real-life concept. Most people have heard of files and documents in real life, and the term buffer is instead a capacious term with little grounding to most people.
To computer scientists and programmers alike, however, the term buffer has meaning and purpose; it’s still an unsatisfactory answer, even if it is the real reason why Emacs uses the term buffer. And just leaving it there – that a buffer is a chunk of memory and used as a means of shuttling data to and fro peripheral hardware, like your disk – does not go far enough in explaining why. All editors use buffers internally.
In Emacs, the buffer is the focal point of nearly all user (and machine!) interactions. You read and you write, and you do so in a structure that tugs at its roots in computer science, but it’s so much more than that. And that’s really what I want to talk about, as it will go a long way towards explaining why Emacs and Emacs Lisp is the way it is.

The original EGA background art for Loom was made by Mark Ferrari. The character art was done by Gary Winnick and Steve Purcell. Gary Winnick designed the sprites and did most of the sprite animation, while Steve Purcell did the larger character portraits and some additional animation. Ken Macklin did the effects animation, such as moving water and twinkles.
I love Mark Ferrari artwork across many games and formats…

But that’s where the similarities end. In the aftermath of the shooting, parents in Dunblane were able to mobilize with the kind of effectiveness that has eluded American gun control activists. By the following year, Parliament had banned private ownership of most handguns, as well as semi-automatic weapons, and required mandatory registration for shotgun owners. There have been no school shootings in the U.K since then.
When Ted Cruz slunk away from UK reporters asking why It Only Happens Here, this is the reality he was trying to avoid talking about. If the US had enacted the same controls when Columbine happened, there would be millions, if not billions, of less guns in the wild… But starting today would still make a difference, and making a culture of gun being reviled instead of worshiped, of sucking the “cool” out of them, too.
This is what I talk to my kids about, how effective a near-total-ban was elsewhere in the world… Because their generation, the one that’s been doing lockdown and active shooter drills their entire lives, is going to be the one that has Zero Sh*ts to give about gun tradition or the 2nd amendment.
